THE LEVEL crossing at Brooke Road in Oakham was closed for two hours this afternoon after a lorry hit the barrier.
Police say they were called at 1.50pm because the gates were broken.
Engineers from Network Rail repaired the damage.
A spokesman said: “We had a call from the control room in Oakham saying that as the barriers closed a lorry demolished one of them.
“We would like to thank people for their patience.”
The lorry did not stop and it is not yet clear whether the lorry driver was aware that the vehicle had hit the crossing barrier.
The Network Rail spokesman said he had passed details of the lorry on to British Transport Police.
Trains were still running through the crossing at a reduced speed.
