A man had to be airlifted to hospital following a car crash on the A1.

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 8.45am yesterday (Sunday) after a car careered off the northbound carriageway and hit a tree near Wittering.

The driver, who is in his 20’s, was airlifted by Magpas Helimedix Air Ambulance to Peterborough City Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Following the temporary closure of the carriageway, there was a three-vehicle collision in the queuing traffic at about 10am.

Firefighters used to cutting-equipment to release one casualty.

It is believed no-one was seriously injured.
