Thursday 10am: A man who was seriously injured when the car he was in crashed into a fence has died.

Victor Matimba, 36, of New Parks Boulevard, Leicester, was a passenger in a BMW 318 that came off the A47 at Thornhaugh at 3.20pm on Sunday.

A fencepost smashed through the car windscreen and hit Mr Matimba, causing serious head and body injuries.

He was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge but has since died.

Police said the driver of the car, a 39-year-old woman from Leicester, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and has been bailed until May 6.

The two other occupants of the vehicle, two girls aged 11 and seven, suffered slight injuries and were taken to Peterborough City Hospital.
