RUTLAND county councillor and former Uppingham mayor Colin Forsyth OBE died on Friday, aged 71.
Coun Forsyth (Ind) represented Uppingham and was elected onto the county council in May.
He worked as a dentist in Uppingham before retiring a few years ago and lived with his wife Sarah in Stockerston Road. He was awarded an OBE in 2001 for services to dental care for prisoners.
Coun Forsyth had been suffering from cancer but died from a sudden heart attack on Friday.
Leader of Rutland County Council Roger Begy (Con) said: “Colin showed great strength and determination in dealing with his condition.
“He was determined to make a difference however difficult it was for him personally.
“We will miss his sagacity and experience. His advice was always considered and calmly presented. Rutland has lost a significant personality and a great family man.”
Chief executive of Rutland County Council Helen Briggs said: “The thoughts of all councillors and officers are with the family of councillor Forsyth at this sad time.”
