Twelve volunteers step forward to help Uppingham speedwatch campaign

A DOZEN people have come forward to take part in a community speedwatch scheme aimed at tackling speeding drivers.

Volunteers in Uppingham will be trained to use speedguns to catch people who are driving too quickly in the town. The information will be sent to police who will then send a letter to the owner of the vehicle asking them not to do it again.

The initiative has been organised by Uppingham Neighbourhood Forum and Leicestershire Police. Locations for the speedwatch team to monitor will be chosen today.

Co-ordinator Ron Simpson said: “I’m delighted with the number of volunteers. It’s typical of people in Uppingham.”
