Billowing smoke continues to rise over BW Riddle's scrapyard in South Fen Road, Bourne, more than 20 hours after the fire started in a 800 tonne heap of scrap metal and plastic.

The fire service operation has been scaled back, with just a few fire appliances at the scene. Water to keep the fire from spreading is now being pumped from a drainage dyke about a quarter of a mile from the site.

South Fen Road is still closed at its junctions with Cherryholt Road, Bourne and Counter Drain Drove, Tongue End, with thick smoke drifting over South Fen Road from the fire.

Neighbouring residents have been told the fire is likely to continue burning for several days.
