TRIBUTES have been paid to former Stamford School pupil Harry Drain, 18, who died on Tuesday after being hit by a train while out jogging near Tinwell.
Principal of the Stamford Endowed Schools, Stephen Roberts, said: “The whole community of the Stamford Endowed Schools is immensely shocked by the tragic death of Harry who was a popular, intelligent and hard-working student and was greatly respected by his peers and by the teaching staff.
“Harry had just taken his A-levels in business studies, geography and psychology and left the school at the beginning of July.
“This summer he won a school prize for business studies and was planning to gain work experience in his gap year before going on to university.
“He enjoyed many outdoor activities and was a keen rugby player representing Stamford School in the 2nd XV.
“He had recently achieved his grade 6 in his LAMDA performance exams.
“He was a well-known and engaging member of the school with a positive outlook and therefore he was a natural choice to represent his peers on the sixth form council.
“Harry’s enthusiasm and good sense of humour made him popular with everyone and he will be greatly missed. All those who knew Harry at the Stamford Endowed Schools are devastated by this news and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.”
The Mercury has opened a book of condolences for Harry. If you would like to pay tribute, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
Tributes have been flooding in via e-mail, on Twitter and on Facebook:
Rest in peace Harry.
You were the most down to earth genuine person you could meet. You had the cheekiest grin and the nicest laugh. You made everyone around you happy and made the whole atmosphere better.
There’s a hole in everyone’s life that will never be filled, all I can say is sleep well, I know you’ve gone to an amazing place where there’s an endless supply of meal deals and family guy :) haha.
I played rugby with Harry last year, he was a great member of the team, easy to talk to and funny - I would have liked to have known him better.
Thoughts are with you all
Harry was one of the friendliest guys you could hope to meet, and I have never heard anyone say a bad word against him. Such a tragic loss, my thoughts are with his brothers, family and close friends; this all seems like a horrible dream. Rest In Peace.
Harry, you were the nicest, friendliest person. It was an utter privilege to have met you and been one of your friends. Although you have left us you have left so many happy memories and nothing but praise and celebration for your life.
You were so deserving of life, intelligent, kind, funny, and have the most infectious smile i have ever known.
You will be sincerely missed but never forgotten, you will forever live on in the hearts of the people who were lucky enough to know you.
My thoughts are with your family who were very special to you.
I know you are in a good place and have an Xbox, endless supply of snacks and Family Guy on tap. Only you, being the person everyone loves, have the ability to bring so many people together to celebrate you, I hope you can see how special you are and the impact you’ve had on so many lives and brought us all together. Wherever you are, look down and be proud of yourself, because we certainly all are.
Forever in our hearts Harry <3
R.I.P. Harry, I know we didn’t know each other well but a hole has been left in the Stamford community that will never be filled, my thoughts go out to your family and friends
Only knowing you for a few years, in the time I knew you, you were always a pleasant and happy lad to be around. You were one of the nicest people I have ever met from Stamford and that won’t be forgotten. You never had a bad word to say about anyone and no-one had a bad word to say about you. Greatly missed does not even come close to how much you will be missed. You had and always will have a lot of people who care and love you with all their hearts, nothing will ever change that. My thoughts are with your family and friends at this tragic time. Will miss you always, sweet dreams x
I did not know you very well
But I knew your winning smile.
When, like everyone else, I heard the news
I had to sit a while.
You had plans, you had a life
And friends to share it with.
We’re all flying the nest and they have to say,
We are no longer kids.
We’re all moving on, building our own lives,
Whether art or science or business.
But I think the worst part of all of this is,
That you won’t be coming with us.
RIP Harry Drain xxx
This all feels like a horrible dream. Seven years of being Harry’s school friend and i have never heard anything but praise for him. He was one of the kindest, smiliest and funniest people I ever had the pleasure to meet. My thoughts are with the Drain family in this horrible time. Harry, and his impeccable teeth will be missed so much by so many people. Rest in peace bud x
I’d just like to say rest in peace Harry. I never met you, but I have close friends that have and they’ll miss you lots. You seem like a great lad, RIP.
Deeply saddened by the tragic death of this bright and very popular lad. Our condolences and thoughts go out to all his family and friends.
Tom was saying that the last time he and Harry had met up was just prior to an A Level exam where they had both ended up convulsed with laughter about the subject matter of the exam itself - a fond and happy memory that I’m sure will linger long.
