A COFFEE morning in aid of a Christian rehabilitation programme for prisoners raised £70 on Saturday.

The event at Uppingham Congregational Church House in Adderley Street was the first in aid of the Kainos programme which is run at Stocken Prison in Stretton.

A special joint service with Oakham and Weldon Congregational Churches on Sunday raised a further £46 from the collection which was presented to a representative from the prison who attended the church on the day.

Pastor Peter Damen said: “My wife heard about Kainos on the radio and we got some information and made contact with them.

“It has taken about a year but we have started to fund raise for them.”

The church holds regular coffee mornings and has so far raised about £700 for various causes around Rutland.
