RESIDENTS in a town opened their garden gates on Sunday to coincide with the annual feast day.

Six gardens in Uppingham were opened for the afternoon to raise money for St Peter and St Paul’s church.

The gardens were open at various locations in the town, but the majority were in the Stockerston Road area.

Among the open gardens was The Lodge schoolhouse at Uppingham School and The Garden Hotel in High Street West.

About 115 people bought tickets from the parish church and made their way around the town.

They also enjoyed a range of cakes and refreshments which were served by volunteers in the church hall.

The event raised about £500 for the church funds.

Organiser Richard Harris said: “The comments were overwhelming.

“It was one of the best years we have ever had. The atmosphere was great and very relaxed.”
