THE Uppingham School Sports Centre building has won another accolade taking the Royal Institute of British Architects East Midlands Award for Architecture.
At the RIBA Midlands Awards ceremony 2012 held in Leicester on Wednesday last week architects ORMS were praised for developing “A simple clear strategy for the site, entailing a raised grass escarpment overlooking the rugby pitches.
“The building was well planned, well considered and well executed.”
The environmentally-friendly centre which opened in 2010 has a sports hall, swimming pool, fitness studio, gym, squash courts and dance studios.
Headmaster Richard Harman, said: “I am delighted that our new sports centre has been recognised by the RIBA for its superb and sympathetic design.
“I am sure that all its users and visitors will agree that the School, the town of Uppingham and the county of Rutland can be very proud of it.
“This is the fourth architectural award it has received. Huge credit goes to the architects ORMS and to the whole project and design team.”
