UPPINGHAM town centre took on a carnival air at the weekend with maypole dancing, live music and more than 100 stunning classic cars vying for attention.
Although 75 cars were booked to appear at the Classics in Uppingham event, 120 turned up on a glorious sunny Sunday.

More than 1,000 vistiors flocked to the town for what proved to be a fantastic family day out with classic cars, charity stalls, live music, Maypole dancing and street entertainment.

The ice cream seller had such a good day that he gave organisers an additional donation for the Air Ambulance fund.

Among the gleaming cars polished within an inch of their life, were Rolls Royces, Minis, Morris Minors, a 1914 Stanley Steamer and two American police cars complete with working sirens. There was music from Uppingham Community College Harmony choir, classics from the Wigston band and brilliant Maypole dancing from Uppingham Primary School pupils.

The day was organised by a group made up of Uppingham Rotary Club and Beeches residents.

Event co-ordinator Ron Simpson said: "The very nice thing is the tremendous amount of compliments we have received on the event.

"Obviously the weather helped. "What we are going to do is evaluate the outcomes and make a decision as to whether we try to make this a regular event."
Money made on the day is still being counted but all profits will go towards the Air Ambulance.
