Victoria Hall in Oakham gets £7,000 award to improve its facilities from the Big Lottery Fund

A VENUE in Oakham has received a cash boost from the Big Lottery Fund.

The trustees of the Victoria Hall, in High Street, are delighted that they have been awarded a £7,000 grant from the fund.

The money will pay for new folding doors into the hall’s Rutland Suite Ballroom so it can offer improved facilities to the community.

The doors will be used to create much needed storage space and changing facilities, and allow more flexibility, particularly to smaller community groups.

Peter Knight, one of the trustees involved in the project, said: “The Victoria Hall is a significant asset to Rutland and Oakham and a great benefit to the local community.

“The ballroom is a wonderful space for large gatherings, and can accommodate up to 200 guests. Now this award can allow the hall to be used by smaller groups and gives us much greater flexibility to be a fantastic room for many more people in the community to hire.

“There is no facility in the centre of town like the Victoria Hall and in order to meet the growing demand for community facilities we need to constantly make improvements. We are truly delighted with this award.”

The venue hosts a range of events including weddings, charity balls, art exhibitions, theatrical productions and fitness classes.
