Hundreds of people have been at Stamford School today (Friday) to see cricket legend Freddie Flintoff and other stars take on local players.
The Dean Headley Invitation XI took on the Professional Cricketers’ Association England Masters including Flintoff, David Lloyd aka Bumble, Herschelle Gibbs and many other former international stars.
Former England bowler turned Stamford School cricket coach Headley instigated the match and was playing alongside local players including Chris Meadows of Burghley Park Cricket Club, Stamford Town Cricket Club 1st XI captain Liam Dave, Mark Cox of Uppingham Town Cricket Club, Bourne Cricket Club’s Peter Morgan, Jamie Smith of Peterborough Town Cricket Club, Cameron Wake of Oundle Town Cricket Club, and ex-Bourne Cricket Club player, former Stamford School head boy Will Clough.
Genevieve Potter, of Greatford, was one of the hundreds of people there. She said: “It’s very exciting that there’s such a big event on at the school today with lots of famous faces, the highlight being Flintoff. We will be here until the end of the day and we’ve had some lovely food and it’s a great day for the kids.”
Claire Burne, 34, of Sutherland Way, Stamford, said: “It’s an amazing venue and great activities for the little ones. I am most excited to see Freddie Flintoff, we think he is lovely!”
