Scores of excited youngsters gathered on the Recreation Ground in Stamford on Saturday for the opening of the new skatepark.
The damp conditions didn’t deter the skateboarders, BMXers, rollerbladers and scooter riders, many of whom have been waiting more than five years for the new facility.
The park, which cost more than £150,000, was paid for by kind donations from businesses, residents and charitable organisations. Chairman of Stamford Skatepark Committee Marc Stanier thanked all those who had helped turn the dream into a reality, before handing over to John Judge, 82, and Hector Clack, 12, to officially open the park.
The new facility will be open from 10am until 5pm on both Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
