THE festive spirit has not bypassed two home owners who have lit up their villages with lights.

David, Linda and Christopher O’Regan, of Tinwell Forge, and Ian Bell, of Mill Lane, Empingham, have decorated the outside of their homes with lights, inflatables and even water features.

David said: “We have been doing it for a few years now and the children in the village love it. In these austere times especially we think it’s worth doing.”

The O’Regan’s started their collection by putting lights around the horseshoe on the building and it has grown from there. It takes three weekends to put them all up.

David said: “I don’t know how much money we’ve spent on them.

“My favourite decoration is The Angel Gabriel because, despite the lights, we haven’t forgotten the true meaning of Christmas.”

Ian says he has spent about £50 a year for the last 15 years on his lights.

He does admit he has toned it down though.

He said: “I’m 73 now and my wife Sandra says I’m not to go up on the roof anymore. But I still put most of the lights up because I like them.”

Ian has even incorporated his favourite hobby into the lights. He said: “My favourite is the steam train because that’s what I’m interested in.”
