A GROUP of people who walked 21 miles around Rutland Water have raised more than £400 for charity.

The trek was organised by Julie Maxfield, 52, of Fen Road, Dunsby, to raise funds for the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Julie completed the trek around the reservoir on March 25 with her daughter Poppy, 21, and were joined by Julie’s eldest daughter Ruth, 26, and her friend Lucy Stevenson, who both have Down’s Syndrome.

The event was organised to coincide with Down’s Syndrome Awareness Week from March 19 to 25, and the 21 mile route was chosen to represent the three copies of the 21st chromosome which is unique to people with the condition.

Julie said: “It was a nice day and we had lots of people come up to us and wish us good luck.”
