More than 20 people joined members of Uppingham Town Council’s heritage trail working group for a trial run of the town’s heritage trail.
Visitors also got their hands on the guide leaflet and saw the seven information boards that will be positioned at intervals along the route.
The group included many members of Uppingham Local History Study Group, a visitor from the US, and local residents. Uppingham mayor David Casewell said: “It was a really useful exercise and many small errors in the documents were identified, and helpful suggestions were made to improve the trail information.
“It was also great fun, and walking the trail gave a new perspective even to those very familiar with the town.”
The working group was also able to demonstrate the associated trail website giving a great deal more information about each of the 20 sites identified along the route.
Uppingham Town Council hopes to be able to complete it by the autumn.
The development of the trail is being supported by funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
