PUPILS raised thousands of pounds for a charity for young people injured through sport.

Children from Witham Hall School, in Witham-on-the-Hill, took part in a fun run to raise money for the Matt Hampson Foundation.

Matt, from Cold Overton, was paralysed from the neck down after a scrum collapsed on top of him during training for the England under-21 squad in 2005.

The children put in a huge amount of effort during the fun run and raised £7,790 for the charity.

Matt came into school himself on Tuesday last week to receive the cheque.

Headteacher Charles Welch congratulated all the pupils but gave special praise to brothers Joshua and Toby Coulson, 11 and 9, who raised £450 between them.

Toby and Joshua, from Hambleton, gave the cheque to Matt and were also presented with tickets to attend the men’s football at the Olympic Games.
