WORK has begun on the town centre redevelopment plans in Bourne.

The £2.14m regeneration project by South Kesteven District Council will include the complete refurbishment of Wherry’s Mill and build a new adjoining building started this week.

The project will include seven ground floor shop spaces and 14 first and second floor apartments.

The scheme is the first of a wider regeneration scheme in the town which includes the creation of an area of landscaped land serviced with pipes, suitable for future development.

South Kesteven District Council’s leader, Coun Linda Neal (Con) said: “I am pleased that work has started on the core area project.

“I am looking forward to seeing how the work progresses over the coming months and I can’t wait to see what it looks like when the work is finished.”

The building works are expected to run until spring 2013.
