WORK has started on the site for a new pub and petrol station in Bourne.

Contractors from construction company Lindum Group, started work on the site at the end of May.

Lindum Group hope to build a petrol station on the site and pub company Marston’s has started work to build a pub and restaurant.

Plans to build a pub on the land near the Elsea Park roundabout in South Road was granted planning permission by South Kesteven District Council’s development control committee on May 1.

Lindum Group has also achieved outline planning permission for a long awaited second petrol station in the town.

Lindum Group development director Stuart Mitchell said: “We have started work on the infrastructure of the site, preparing the road and now Marston’s contractors are on the site but we are stalled on the service station until we can secure an operator.”

Mr Mitchell said the Lindum Group has not given up hope of securing a company to build the petrol station but work would not begin on its structure until one is confirmed and it will contact the local authority again.

Lindum Group, which is based in North Hykeham, wanted the petrol station to be open 24 hours a day, but district councillors voted to restrict operating hours from 6am to 11.30am amid concerns over the impact on neighbouring residents.
