Work starts today (Monday) on repairing the roof of the swimming pool at Catmose Sports Centre in Oakham.

Ashe Construction is carrying out the work on behalf of Rutland County Council. The work is due to take up to nine weeks.

The swimming pool closed in August 2013 when a survey to examine leaks in the roof found other issues.

Deputy Leader of Rutland County Council Terry King (Con) said: “It’s good to know that the repair works will start soon and I look forward to the pool being reopened to the community during the next few months. We’ll issue regular updates so people know how works are progressing.

“The decision taken by councillors to repair the roof guarantees swimming in Oakham for a few years at least.

“The big challenge now is for the council to work with other key organisations around the town to explore options for a long-term facility that will be here for many years to come. We look forward to starting that work.”

The repair works agreed by councillors in October will cost an estimated £130,000 and will focus on keeping the building safe and the changing rooms dry.

The council is also exploring options for a potential new swimming pool and plans to consult with a wide range of partners including schools, community groups and any other interested parties.

All other areas of Catmose Sports Centre remain open during the works and customers should continue using these facilities as normal. For inquiries about sports provision, please contact Catmose Sports directly on 01572 490030.
