Work will start on refurbishing a former sports club in Ketton in October.

Members of Ketton Sports and Community Centre formed a registered charity in November in a bid to turn the former Ketton Sports Association into a modern fit for purpose building.

Plans have been drawn up by Wansford-based architects Harris and McCormack.

Last month, a building sub-committee meeting of the trustees of the centre decided that work by local contractors Sheffield and Ford would start in October.

The new building will provide large areas for functions, sports classes, meetings and community events.

It will still be home to the thriving junior and senior sports sections including tennis, cricket, bowls, football and tri-athlon, all based at the Pit Lane grounds.

So far the centre has raised £10,000 from donations from villagers as part of the Buy a Brick campaign, which should be boosted by Gift Aid. The trustees have also achieved grant funding from Rutland County Council (£14,000), Cory Environmental Trust (£6,000), Lottery Awards for All (£10,000), Waitrose (£300) and Tesco Bags of Help scheme (£12,000).

Ketton Parish Council has also pledged £10,000 and the Whitebread Trust has agreed to give £30,000.

The trustees are also currently waiting to hear from further bid applications submitted to Support England and the EU Leader
Awards.

The trustees have also been boosted by pledges of support from local people and business, which have contributed to lowering the overall costs by a considerable amount.

Architect drawings/plans and further information will be available to view at the clubhouse at the end of May. These will also be on display at the Ketton Village Fete, which will be held at the centre, on Sunday, July 17, from 1pm to 6pm.

Anyone wishing to add support, donations or pledges can do so by contacting the trustees via e-mail on enquiries@kettonsportsand
communitycentre.co.uk or by calling 01780 721507, or by visiting the clubhouse.
