TWO young ice skaters have won the chance to perform in front of thousands on the opening night of a spectacular new show.

Evie Martin-Cuthbertson, seven, of Holloway Avenue, Bourne and Eleanor Waldock, nine, of Elizabeth Way, Thurlby won the Ice Factor competition at Peterborough Ice Skating Arena earlier this month.

The pair will now perform their own choreographed routine during the first night of Holiday on Ice’s new show, Tropicana - the Passion Tour.

Evie’s mother Kelly said: “We just couldn’t believe it when they won. The girls only started working on their programme a week before the competition and being so young, I think they just went out and enjoyed themselves.

“They work so well as a team and help each other when they practice. I’m so proud and pleased for them.”

The Ice Factor competition attracted 21 young skaters from across the country and was judged by Olympic champion and TV personality Robin Cousins MBE and Lauren Taylor, a professional ice skater and semi-principal for the new show.

Eleanor’s mother Sara added: “Credit really has to been given to the girl’s skating coach, Kate Locks, who helped with the choreography and gave them the encouragement and confidence to enter the competition.

“We are so lucky to have such excellent skating coaches at Peterborough.”

Evie is a pupil at the Bourne Westfield Primary Academy in Westbourne Park, and Eleanor attends Thurlby Community Primary School.

They are both keen skaters and spend most of their free time practising their routines.

Judge Robin Cousins praised their performance in the competition. He said: “Several of the skaters were good enough to have the potential to join a professional skating show like Holiday on Ice when they’re older.

“Eleanor and Evie’s performance stood out; their performance was charming, brilliantly in sync and their skating skills really advanced at such a young age.

“We are really looking forward to seeing what they come up with for opening night.”

The show will be held at the East of England Showground from February 2 to 5 next year.
