Have your say

Despite challenging economic times for both families and businesses, our recent Christmas Tree Appeal was a great success.

Christmas tree hosts this year collected/donated more than 900 children’s Christmas gifts (age range from six months to 16 years) which is a remarkable achievement and succeeded in making Christmas better for many families.

All recipients were from families in suffering significant extreme hardship.

The following organisations have been the main beneficiaries this year: Peterborough Family Action, Stamford HomeStart, Peterborough Prison mother and baby unit.

Gifts were collected from our hosts by volunteers and delivered to community organisations for sorting and distribution to families. This takes a great deal of organisation and hard work by their dedicated staff and volunteers for which we are very grateful.

Our hosts were as follows, and we thank them very sincerely for participating in this appeal: The Horse and Jockey pub, Manton, Aebi Schmid, Peterborough; Caterpillar Perkins, Peterborough; Peterborough City Hospital Ambulance Station; Crown Inn, Great Casterton; Cummins Generator Technologies, Stamford; Curves of Stamford; Grasmere Farms; ICCM Care Agency; Joyce Hinds, Norfolk; Nenegate School, Peterborough; Phoenix School, Peterborough; Royal Haskoning DHV, Peterborough; Sainsbury’s, Stamford; Sheepmarket Surgery, Stamford; Smithers Purslow; Stamford Hospital; St Gilbert’s School, Stamford; The Ark Nursery, Stamford; Bluebell Inn, Helpston, Peterborough; Point of Health, Stamford; Thurlby Primary School; Thurlby Methodist Church; Voyager Academy, Peterborough; various generous private donations.

Stamford St Martin’s Rotary Club is proud to work in partnership with the local community and is pleased to receive the continued assistance and support from the Mercury.

The children of our local community (Peterborough, Stamford and the surrounding areas) are the direct beneficiaries of the appeal, but I think we are all much richer for this project.

Thank you so much for your generosity and support.
