Since opening the new Oakham bus station, Rutland County Council has been delighted to receive a great deal of positive feedback from bus passengers and local residents.
It was great to see so many people at the official launch earlier this month and then to read the report in the Rutland Times which featured comments from bus passengers including ‘brilliant and a massive improvement’, ‘it will be much better in the colder months’ as well as ‘smart and very trendy’. Mr Meadows (Mercury May 16) asks a number of questions about the toilets in the new bus station. For those people who have not yet seen the new facility, there is a disabled and unisex toilet, including a baby changing area.
The toilets within the bus station are for the use of bus passengers and a welcome addition, not a replacement, to the already popular Church Street toilets that have been open for a number of years and are provided and funded by Oakham Town Council.
There is also the option of visiting one of the many pubs, restaurants or coffee shops in Oakham for a quick drink or a bite to eat – I’m sure they would welcome the extra trade.
If you’ve not yet had a chance to visit the new bus station then I would urge you to do so. It provides an indoor waiting room, covered waiting areas, cycle storage and real-time bus departure screens. The project was funded by a grant from the Department for Transport and I’m pleased to say that Rutland County Council completed the project on-time and under budget.
