Letter: Promoted cycle safety for years

In response to the comments on Manton Parish Council by Mr and Mrs Cross in your letters page last week, I make just two brief comments.

First, the refusal of the Manton caravan and camping site by the Rutland County Council development control committee, following objections from the Highways department, the parish council and many others, was directed entirely at traffic and safety issues concerning access to the proposed site. These concerns remain despite the successful appeal.

Secondly, the parish council has for many years promoted safety on the cycle track.

A few years ago, when some limited funding was becoming available, our overriding priority over other schemes was to press for the separation of all cyclists and walkers from fast traffic at Lyndon Top. Having overcome difficulties, that is at last likely to be achieved.
