I AM writing to thank The Mercury and your readers on behalf of 16th Regiment Royal Artillery and the other units based at St George’s Barracks, North Luffenham, after the generosity shown in response to this year’s Mercury Christmas appeal.
From the abundance of chocolate goodies that were delivered to the barracks, it is reassuring to know that the people of Stamford and Rutland can spare a thought for their soldiers and airmen deployed in Afghanistan as well as remembering the families that are left behind.
Our thanks must also go to the local retailers who gave so generously: Morrisons, Waitrose, Co-op and the Rainbow Store to name but a few. The chocolate was sent to our servicemen and women deployed in Afghanistan and distributed among their families back here in Rutland.
On their behalf, I would like to thank you for ensuring that they felt valued over the festive period.
COL J PHILLIPS
