COTTESMORE are left flying the Leicestershire Senior Cup flag for Rutland after safely negotiating a potentially tricky second round tie on Saturday.
The Rogues Park outfit overcame their Leicestershire Senior League Division One hosts with an excellent second half display to remain Rutland's sole representatives in the competition after local rivals Rutland Rangers and Uppingham Town were knocked
out.

Joint manager Steve Duffy was delighted how side bounced back from a below-par first-half performance to avoid a potential giant-killing.

He said: "We were not very good in the first half and looked very disjointed.

"But we had a chat at half-time and completely dominated the second half which I was very pleased about.

"We got the ball down and played some quick pass-and-move football. They were really frustrated by the end because they couldn't get the ball off us."

Rob Lewin had given Cottesmore the advantage in the opening period when he stabbed the ball home from close range and Jack Berry came close on several occasions to increasing their lead.

However, the hosts - who are the reserve side of UniBond Division One South outfit Loughborough Dynamo - hit back before the break to level.

But Cottesmore turned on the style in the second period with substitute Ben Easson having an immediate impact.

He showed great skill just minutes after being introduced to curl Amateurs into the lead with a shot into the top corner.

Their place in the last 16 was then assured when a great move saw Marcus Baines thread a pass through to David Bates who fired home into the bottom corner.

The hosts then ended the contest with 10 men when they had a player sent off with five minutes remaining after picking up a second booking.

Cottesmore will now face Premier Division rivals Ratby Sports in the last 16 on Saturday, December 13.

Cottesmore: Rogers, Whyley, Bomkin, Quinn, Moore, McDonald, Baines, Morris, Bates, Lewin, Berry. Subs: Easson, Brown, Steele.
