THE Daniels' first away match in the UniBond Division One South ended in a disappointing reverse on Tuesday night as newly-promoted Glapwell made it back-to-back wins.
Manager Dougie Keast kept faith with the same side that had drawn their opening game with Shepshed against a home side who had started life in the UniBond League with a 2-1 away win at Spalding on Saturday.

Stamford played some neat football up the marked slope at Glapwell's Hall Corner ground in the early stages but fell behind to the home side's first attack after 11 minutes.

Colin Cockerill crossed from the left and Martin Fox scored with a well-struck shot which Martin Davies got a hand to but couldn't keep out.

The Daniels responded positively with Tyrone Kirk testing home keeper Lawrence Matthewson after collecting a Dan Cotton cross while Cotton should have scored himself shortly afterwards but pulled his shot wide in a one-on-one with the keeper.

Matthewson saved with his legs from Cotton while Chris Gray failed to hit the target with a follow-up.

Gray then latched onto a long ball only to miss wildly as Matthewson advanced.

Stamford deservedly equalised after 37 minutes when Phil Stebbing was brought down as he cut inside a defender and Dom Hallows converted the spot kick.

The home side regained the lead after 42 minutes. Danny Reet crossed to the far post, Fox headed back across goal and veteran striker Neil Grayson turned the ball in from a yard out.

Cotton missed an opportunity to level before the break, shooting wide with just Matthewson to beat.

Daniels defender Paul Sheehan was forced off at half-time through illness and Glapwell had the better of the early stages of the second half with Davies saving well from Grayson who also had a couple of other openings.

Late on Stamford regained the initiative as they gave their flank players more of the ball, but a succession of dangerous crosses failed to produce any reward as Glapwell successfully soaked up the pressure to leave the Daniels with just a point from their opening two games.
