RUTLAND Rangers incredible start to life in the Peterborough League Premier Division continued as they smashed Ramsey's 18-month unbeaten run with a 4-0 capitulation.
Ramsey were promoted as Division One champions ahead of runners-up Rangers last season and it was that, coupled with two 1-0 defeats during the previous campaign, which gave Saddington's men all the motivation they needed.
Tactically Saddington's side got the trip to Ramsey spot-on. They chose to play down the slope in the first half with the aim of getting a good lead and defending it after the break.
Robbie Pearce's half-volley gave Rangers an eight minute lead and Michael Nelson added a second moments before half-time.
Ramsey piled on the pressure in the second half and hit the top of the bar but Rangers weathered the storm and hit the hosts on the counter-attack.
Stu Lambie picked the ball up before putting it through a defender's legs and slotting home.
With seven minuites remaining Jamie Saddington's free-kick was met by Pearce who glanced home the fourth.
Manager Saddington said: "It was a cracking result. The run had to come to an end for them at some point and obviously we're delighted to have done that.
"The lads were buzzing all week and I was getting messages telling me how ready they were.
"Ultimately there was no pressure on us at all. They had the record to uphold. Our main motivation was revenge for the two 1-0 defeats last season."
But despite the victory Saddington refuses to get carried away and insists and top half finish would still mark a highly successful season.
He said: "Our sole aim when we were promoted was to ensure we weren't in a relegation scrap.
"Anything else is a bonus. After the start we have made and the way we have played I would like to think we will finish in the top half or higher but there's a long way to go.
"We are playing a lot of teams for the first time and maybe they are expecting to turn up and roll us over and they are discovering that is not the case.
"Obviously we won't have the shock factor when it comes to playing teams for the second time and they will be ready for us.
"We're enjoying the results, enjoying playing against some good teams and the atmosphere and spirit is tremendous but we are a level headed young team and will not be getting carried away."
The win moves Rangers above Ramsey into second with 21 points from their opening nine games. They are just a point behind AFC Fletton.
Rangers have a break from league action tomorrow with their first ever Leicestershire Senior Cup clash at Barwell Rserves.
Saddington is looking forward to another new chapter for the club.
He said: "Promotion means we have been moved into this competition and it's going to be a good day out for us.
"They are a good side and we're going there to enjoy playing in a very good stadium."
