Terry's terrific treble

VETERAN Terry Rawlings claimed a hat-trick to help Ufford Park to a nine-wicket win over Brigstock in Division Three.
Rawlings finished his spell of 5-25 with a treble as Brigstock, who were relegated with Ufford last season, were dismissed for 90.

Darren Gibson’s 0-22 from 12 overs and Jan Neville’s 3-20 in 10 overs had earlier restricted the Brigstock batsmen t
o just 38 runs from 22 overs.

Ufford lost Daniel Hodder without scoring in the first over, but Andy Hills hammered nine fours and a six in his unbeaten 62 while Ross Keymer hit 23 not out to see their side home in 18th over for maximum batting points.

Stamford Town kick-started their Division Two campaign with a dramatic victory over Barnack.

It didn’t appear too promising at the start as Town collapsed to 66-6 after too many inauspicious shots early on.

Despite Dave Woolf (24) and Tom Williams (18) looking in very little trouble, Town struggled against Steve Best bowling as well as ever.

It was left to the Stamford bowlers to push the total up to an unexpected 163-9 off 45 overs. Richard Field at last showed great form with the bat, top-scoring with 31 not out, and was ably helped by Brett Bennett as 65 were added for the last two wickets.

With Gary Scotcher playing a commanding innings for Barnack, it looked a hopeless case for the home side.

But Town chipped away at the other end with Chris Bore once again producing a fine effort of 3-40.

With Field’s overs only yielding 22 runs, Stamford gradually clawed their way into the match for the first time, but still Scotcher held firm.

With just seven balls remaining and only six runs needed, an inspirational piece of fielding from Chris Birch at short mid-wicket produced a direct hit which left Scotcher shy of the crease and well out for a gritty 75.

It was left to Phil Holland to secure the victory, conceding just two runs off the final over, as Town scraped home by three runs.

Uppingham recorded back-to-back victories after beating Nassington.

A great opening spell of bowling from James Moldon (10-0-24-2) and Jamie Binley (9 -0-22-4) was backed up by two sharp catches from Mark Cox in the slips.

Chris Howe (12-0-39-3) and Colan Bartram (11.5-0-31-0) kept things tight for Uppingham with A. Smith (41) and Bill Taylor (20no) the only two batsman to reach double figures in Nassington’s 122 all out.

The Uppingham innings got off to a poor start with both Adie Salt and Jamie Murray back in the pavilion with the score on nine.

But Cox cracked nine fours and three sixes in his 77 not out as Martin Bennett (11) and John Feetham (14no) saw Uppingham home.

Stamford 2nds lost by seven wickets at Rothwell in Division Five as they capitulated to just 92 all out with only Neil Cornish (35) reaching double figures.

The home side cruised home in just 15 overs.
