RECORDS were smashed by young athletes from Stamford and Bourne at the Lincolnshire Schools County Athletics Championships held at Boston on Saturday.
Stamford High School's Gabrielle Bangay, 15, soared to victory in the pole vault after setting a new county record of 3m11 recently.
Gaby, who has also won the Pateman Trophy for the most outstanding U15 female athlete in Lincolnshire in 2009, is reaping the reward of intensive coaching with national pole vault coach Alan Richardson at Loughborough University.
She won the county schools' title with an excellent three metre leap, well inside the national schools qualifying standard, and now hopes to represent the county at next month's National Schools Championships in Sheffield.
A Bourne schoolboy broke his elder brother's school record at the same event. Shot putter Adam Mohan, of Bourne Grammar School, beat the record set by Robert Mohan in 2006, by almost a metre.
Adam's 14m10 shattered the previous record of 13m17 and won him one of two golds he claimed in the Under 17 boys' age group.
Adam also won the discus with 40.16m into a tricky wind. Both his winning throws were qualifying standard for the English Schools Championships.
Ewan Jones was another star performer from Bourne Grammar School, winning the u15 Junior boys 100m with a time of 11.9s, just one tenth of a second outside the English School Entry standard. Ewan also finished 4th in the shot with 10.17m.
Both athletes have been selected to represent Lincolnshire in the Anglian School Championships in Norwich on Saturday and joining them will be Rachel Gale who finished 2nd in the u17 girls shot with a put of 8.07m, Beth Thomas who was 3rd in the girls 800m with 2min 43.5 and Charlotte Davison 3rd in the junior girls high jump with 1.40m.
Katie Lee, who was the only runner in the in the senior girls 3,000m in a time of 12.14.1 has also been selected.
