Rutland Water boasting several trout over 7lb

Several fish in excess of 7lb were recorded at Rutland Water last week with the biggest catch, a 7lb 14 5/8oz brown trout, going to Keith Jones of Glinton.

Other notable catches included a 6lb 13oz brown for Matt Gregory and a 7lb 2oz brown for Rick Broome of Oakham.

Malcolm Sheppard of Oakham reported a 7lb rainbow off the bank along with other fish up to 5lb.

Following the first leg of the annual Fry Bashers Match, fished at Grafham on Saturday, Rutland hosted the second leg of the two day match on Sunday with 100 anglers taking to the boats.

The overall top six were as follows: 1st Bill Barnes, 42lb 12oz; 2nd Wayne Jones, 41lb 4oz; 3rd Carl Nixon, 40lb 6oz; 4th John Hardy, 36lb 2oz; 5th Gavin Hill, 35lb 3oz; 6th Jim Crawford, 33lb 4oz.

The George Moore Memorial Trophy pairs rudder match will be fished tomorrow. To enter call 01780 686441.
