A TRIO of Bourne athletes will represent Lincolnshire at the English School Championships in Gateshead next weekend.
Alex Hampson, of Bourne Academy, will race in the 1,500m, while Emma Hornsby and Jamie Howe of Bourne Grammar School will compete in the hurdles and high jump respectively.
Alex, 14, won the junior boys 1,500m in the Lincolnshire Country Championships at Boston and then flew the flag for the county at the Anglian Schools track and field championships last weekend, when he beat stiff opposition to lead the field home in 4m15s.
Andy Cartwright and Matt Hudson also competed in Bourne Academy colours, with Matt clearing 5.90m in the intermediate boys long jump, and Andy clocking an impressive 54.25s in the intermediate boys 400m.
PE teacher at Bourne Academy, Sian Jackson, said: “Alex has had a great season showing true determination and maturity with the English Schools being his aim all year.”
Alex’s victory entitles him to represent the county at Gateshead where he will be joined by the Grammar School duo of Emma Hornsby, who won the intermediate girls 300m hurdles with a time of 48.73s and Jamie Horne who won the junior boys’ high jump with a 5.3m jump.
