Flikweert wins club’s third long course triathlon

PACTRAC held their 3rd Annual Long Course Triathlon at Oundle with a 1,800 yard swim, a 40 mile bike ride and 9.5 mile run.

Emma Cranfield and Dick Rollings lead the swimmers out but once Jaap Flikweert took the lead on the bike he lead the race for the rest of the bike and run. Graeme Hall was closing in rapidly towards the end but didn’t quite give himself enough time.

Jaap came in off the bike over seven minutes ahead of Steve Hope with Graeme leaving himself with too much to do after losing time on the swim. Mark Warren’s Course Record of 3:17:43 from last year remains intact.

Results: Jaap Flikweert 27:08, 1:39:44, 1:16:02 = 3:22:54, Graeme Hall 32:56, 1:44:01, 1:07:02 = 3:23:59, Jonathan Ratcliffe 22:28, 1:54:42, 1:18:22 = 3:35:32, Steve Hope 26:56, 1:47:08, 1:23:02 = 3:37:06, Steve Coward 31:10, 1:45:21, 1:23:53 = 3:40:24, Emma Cranfield 24:03, 1:57:33, 1:20:25 = 3:42:01, Gary Eames 35:20, 1:50:15, 1:18:16 = 3:43:51, Giles Cooper 29:04, 1:53:58, 1:21:27 = 3:44:29, Charlie Brookes 32:46, 2:03:37, 1:26:22 = 4:02:45, Richard Rollings 24:04, 1:57:07, 1:43:11 = 4:04:22, Mariska Niemeijer 27:18, 2:15:35, 1:34:26 = 4:17:19, Sally Pinneger 32:26, 2:19:50, 1:35:45 = 4:28:01.

SIX PACTRACers entered the Milton Keynes Olympic distance triathlon (swim 1500 yards, bike 25 miles and run 6.25 miles). Best placed was Simon Hoppe who beat the 2-hour mark, came 9th overall and 1st in his Age Group (19.50, 63.40, 35.42 = 1.59.12).

l GARY Cooper competed in the Wimbleball Half-Ironman race, over a very hilly, tough course finishing in 6.33.48.

Gary said: “I knew it was going to be a tough race, but I didn’t expect it to be that severe. There was 1 1/4m of climbing on the bike, a major part of which was in excess of 20 percent, and the run had 2/3m of climbing and was all off-road.”
