Simon strides to veterans title at a soggy Wickstead

Stamford Strider Simon Fell picked up yet another trophy on Saturday, this time on a soggy cross country course.

Simon was first in his category (veteran over 35s) and fourth overall at the Kettering Open and Master Cross County event at Wickstead Park, Kettering.

Despite the bright and cold conditions, it was wet underfoot with ankle-deep mud to contend with in sections.

But Simon’s time of 36m14s put him well clear of second place in his category to pick up the Eastern Veterans Athletics Club title.

Four Striders also took on the hilly Bedford Half Marathon on Sunday.

In cold and windy conditions, Jim Morris was first home for the club, 39th overall, in 1h21m07. Vicky Old was next over the line in 1.37.55 followed by Dave Aust 1.48m.8 and David Old in 1.52.22.

Bourne Town Harrier Vaughan Roberts finished in 1.31.40
