UPPINGHAM made their debut in the Northants League, beating Thrapston 3rd XI by 169 runs in division 14 at the Castle Hill ground on Saturday.
Martin Bennett hit 98, frustratingly caught just short of a ton, as Town rattled up 271-6 off 45 overs. Danny Dumford and Jamie Binley both pitched in with 39 before Uppingham’s bowlers made mincemeat of Thrapston line-up.
Thrapston made 102 with Town’s target never looking in danger of being matched.
Alex Ashwin took three for 18 and Harry Butchart four for 25 but all Town’s bowlers produced tight figures.

Opener Sam Wills struck 82 with Rohit Shukla (24) and Steve Mendes (39) helping the innings on to 232-9.
The hosts’ bowling began well but the Loughborough side rallied in the final ten overs smashing more than 100 runs with three batsmen making half centuries and inflicting a frustrating defeat on Oakham.
Rory Brown was the pick of the Oakham bowlers taking five for 31.
Oakham travel to Stoughton and Thurny for their next division three fixture on Saturday.
Oakham’s 2nd XI, who had won their opening two games in the division seven tasted defeat for the first time on Saturday.
They lost to Lutterworth 3rds despite decent knocks from Rupert Inglesant (44), Matt Edge (36) and Angus Boyle (25).
Lutterworth eclipsed Oakham’s 142 with five wickets remaining.

Aiming for promotion this summer, Empingham won two and lost two of their Golding Cup games as a prelude to the league season with Dave McKevitt and Dan O’Kane showing good form with the ball. O’Kane claimed five for 23 against Croxton Kerrial last weekend.
