Broad bags brace in opening victory

STUART Broad took two wickets for England as they won their opening World Cup 2011 match this week.

The former Oakham School cricketer claimed two wickets against the Netherlands in Nagpur on Tuesday as England won by six wickets.

England made 296 for four after the Netherlands had hit 292 for 6 during their 50 overs and Broad, who missed much of the recent Ashes series due to a stomach injury, took the wickets of Ten Doeschate and De Grooth.

In the penultimate over, Broad bowled Peter Borren but the Dutch captain was recalled because England only had three men inside the circle, one fewer than the regulations permit, leaving Broad with final figures of two for 65 off his ten overs.
