Brooks’ late strike seals a great Daniels victory

Stamford 4 Sheffield FC 3

DANNY Brooks’ 96th minute strike sealed a great win for Stamford at the Premier Kitchens Arena on Friday evening.

Brooks’ free-kick ensured The Daniels took full points against Sheffield FC, who had levelled just two minutes earlier, also deep into injury time.

Steven Woolley had given the visitors a 19th minute lead but Kieran Watson equalised just before half time to send the teams in level at the break.

Joe Pheasant and Bruno Holden then put Stamford two ahead with 18 minutes of normal time remaining. But an unfortunate own goal from Dean Whiley set up a nervous ending, and when Matthew Varley scored for Sheffield late on it looked as though points would be shared.

But up stepped Brooks to send the majority of the 244-strong crowd home happy.

The victory moved Stamford above Sheffield into fourth place in the Evo-Stik League First Division South.
