Wayward bowling cost Uppingham a place in the semi-finals of the Stamford Knock-out Shield on Monday evening.
Burghley Park made Town pay for the 25 extras given away the visitors, claiming a three run victory in the final over.
Uppingham won the toss and chose to bat on an overcast dry evening and with opening batsmen Jamie Richardson (13 runs) and Mark Cox (29) reaching 27 for the first wicket.
They lost the next five wickets for 39 runs pushing the score on to 66 runs for 6 before Alex Ashwin hit a quickfire 38 at number six. Ashwin smashed 3 fours and 2 sixes as he pushed Uppinghams to 112 runs. Town added ten more runs to finish on 122 for 8 from their 20 overs.
All four Burghley bowlers took wickets with Ben Slack’s 1 for 18, and Stuart Biggs’ 2 for 30 the pick of the bowling.
In reply Burghley lost Adam Renton for a duck and was soon followed by Rob Emery for 7. Ben Slack fared better, making 17 as Burley struggled in the first 10 overs.
But Chris Meadows (46 not out), batting at number six, changed the game cracking 4 fours and 3 sixes as he guided Burley to victory in the final over, opposite David Cannie (7 not out).
Uppingham’s fielding was excellent but they would rue the second highest scorer for Burley - 25 extras - which ultimately lost them the game.
