BURGHLEY Park’s Sunday XI entertained touring side Bishops Tatchbrook with an enjoyable victory at the Park at the weekend.
Winning the toss, Burghley skipper Matt Roberts asked Bishops to bat first on a fine wicket and openers Popple and Meadows soon returned to the hutch, both out for ducks, caught in the slips.
Sensing a rebuilding job, Roberts and Stephenson went about the rebuilding task. Patiently the pair saw off the opening bowlers and soon started to tuck into the change bowlers with vigour, Roberts being particularly fierce on the slow bowling.
Roberts soon reached his 50, pulling a shot square of the wicket for six. Roberts hit out at every chance but was caught on 59.
McEntee joined Stephenson, who was, like Roberts before him, caught on a splendid 67. Thaine joined McEntee with pair continuing the pace, Thaine dispatching sixes with ease and McEntee driving well.
When Thaine holed out and McEntee went caught and bowled. Richard Clifford joined brother Dave with the latter wasting no time in dispatching the bowling to all parts.
Richard lost his off stump, missing a straight ball which brought Charlie Thaine to the wicket. Displaying maturity and good calling the pair put together a quick 25 partnership before Clifford was stumped for a season best 21.
Ross Thaine joined Charlie and the pair took the score to 205 for 9.
Father and son combination Tom and Simon Stephenson opened the Burghley bowling and through tight bowling and good catching soon had Bishops three down.
Thain who soon had the fourth wicket and Popple joined the fun, snaring two wickets. Richard Clifford took two wickets and young Charlie Thane took the final wicket leaving Bishops all out for 101
