BURGHLEY Park returned to winning ways at home against bottom of the league Bharat Sports on Saturday.

Burghley won the toss and duly put Bharat into bat with opening bowler Mat Simpson swiftly seeing off Piyush Vakharia, caught by Nick Sudbury at silly mid off. An almost identical ball took the wicket of fellow opening bat Harsh Joshi.

Bharat skipper, Nilesh Kuchhadia, batted well for his 48 and boosted the visitors total but the bowling change of Chris Tighe once again proved a good move; Kuchhadia failing to reach his 50 with an edge through to keeper Chris Meadows.

Bowling from Dave Jackson, Vince Spurr and Michael Jones also picked up wickets with the visitors finishing on 145 from 36 overs.

Burghley started their innings well with some solid batting from Rob Chorlton (31), who was well supported at the other end by Dave Cannie (14).

Bharat’s Piyush Vakharis bowled well and picked up three wickets bringing John Meadows to the crease. He swiftly got to work against the bowling with his usual big hitting, his first scoring shot a six, but one hit too many saw him caught. Dave Jackson (29no) and Tom Dolby (7no) saw Burghley through to the win with the home side finishing up on 150 having lost 5 wickets.

The win keeps Burghley Park in second place.
