BILLINGBOROUGH clinched the South Lincolnshire & Border League championship with a slender 12 run victory over second-placed Stamford on Saturday.
Dan Duke hit 99 for the leaders who made 247 for eight, only to see Stamford reach 235 before the final wicket fell. Steve Scott taking six wickets for Billingborough.
The victory made it three titles in four years for Billingborough and skipper Dave Newman said the club may now be able to join the Lincolnshire ECB Premier next season.
He said: “Knowing that the club’s now ECB accredited and we have the chance to possibly get promoted into the premier league for the first time in the club’s history, winning the league this season means a lot more not only to me but also the rest of the Boro team members.
“The squad will need slightly strengthening but our aim is to simply stay in the league.”
Division Three remains neck and neck with leaders Blankney, Baston (who beat Pinchbeck last weekend) and Moulton Harrox all on 263 points.
Moulton have completed their fixtures leaving Blankney and Baston to slug it out for top spot tomorrow.
