Cottesmore Amateurs extended their winning run and ended that of their visitors, Dunton and Broughton, in fine style at Rogues Park on Saturday.
With several players unavailable Cottesmore had to reshuffle their pack with Andy Teare and Gary Drake moving into midfield, and Marcus Baines returning to partner Chris Shaw in defence.
Cottesmore had the best possible start, opening the scoring inside ten minutes, when Dave Gordon’s teasing cross was met by an unstoppable volley from Andy Teare.
Amateurs almost doubled their lead on 25 minutes when Drake saw an effort go narrowly over. However, Cottesmore didn’t have to wait long for a second as Alex Brown flicked on a Callum Pawley free kick into the path of Harry Stannard who finished smartly.
Dunton had plenty of possession in the second half but couldn’t find a way past a resolute Cottesmore, and as the visitors chased the game, Amateurs opened them up more frequently. Brown scored the third after Dunton’s keeper had spilled a Stannard effort.
The away side then pulled a goal back but soon after Rob Lewin had seen his shot cleared off the line, Brown curled his second in from the edge of the penalty area.
Cottesmore: Jordan king, Callum Pawley, Chris Shaw, Marcus Baines, Richard Giblin, Gary Drake (Danny McKay), Andy Teare, Dave Gordon, Jammie McKay (Will Wells), Alex Brown, Harry Stannard (Rob Lewin).
