AN excellent opening partnership of 141 from Steve Best and Ajaz Akter steered Barnack to a big win at Uppingham yesterday.
Best (65) and Aktar (70) set up the visitors’ 120 run victory on the hottest day this year, after Barnack won the toss and chose to bat.
The pair survived unscathed until the 28th over with Town using eight bowlers during a hot, strength-sapping afternoon.
Slow left arm bowler Scott Green, with six wickets for 54 runs, was the only bowler to prove effective on a good batting wicket as Barnack set a first innings total of 226 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 43 overs. George Scott was the only other wicket-taker for Uppingham with one for 21 runs.
In reply, Uppingham opened with Jamie Richardson (13) and Will Cropper (13) as Uppingham struggled against good bowling from Barnack skipper Steve Best (2 for 17) and Mohammed Yaseem (4 for 44) and at 14 overs the home side had lost five wickets for just 42 runs.
Max Collins top scored with 28 as Uppingham collapsed 106 for 9 after 34 overs, and Danny Dumford did not bat after sustaining a hand injury while fielding.
All four Barnack bowlers took wickets as the fragility of Uppingham’s batting was once again exposed this season.
Uppingham, slip to one above the bottom two sides with a tough game away at Peterborough on Sunday. Barnack will host Nassington.
