OAKHAM’S Matt Osman took a hat-trick as the Rutlanders’ second XI picked up maximum points in their fight for promotion.
Oakham cruised past Bardon Hill in division seven of the Everards Leicestershire League on Saturday afternoon and remain just one point behind second-placed Hinckley Town 2nd XI
In the absence of most of the regular seam attack skipper Matt Osman had to rely on himself and veteran spinner Bob Inchley and fortunately they did not disappoint.
The skipper wheeled away for 21 overs, taking a magnificent 7 for 52 including his first ever hat-trick to bring the Bardon Hill innings to a close on a well below par 112 all out. Good support came from Inchley who finished with 2-27 from 12 overs.
After the early loss of Graeme Cooper, fellow opener Mazz Edge (42no) and Steve Lockwood (50no) were untroubled and took Oakham to a straightforward victory by nine wickets in only 25 overs.
The 24 point haul maintains Oakham’s challenge for the second automatic promotion spot but it is a tight race with just seven points separating four teams.
