ALL-rounder Sunneel Appan played a match changing innings for Stamford at rainy Baston, on Saturday.

Appan smashed 13 fours and five sixes for an unbeaten 102 for easily his best tally as Stamford’s 2nd XI made 205 in the South Lincs Division Two and beat their local rivals by 85 runs, to move up to second in the table.

He strode to the crease with Town in trouble, at 53 for 4, following a fine new-ball spell from Adam Hilless (3 for 35), which had claimed opener Gary Peck for 22.

Together with Jon Morley (34), Appan wrenched the game away from a disbelieving home side.

His sparkling knock spanned no more than 70 balls and was full of powerful drives, and several huge pull shots.

Young Joe Morley added a useful 13 not out, to get Town the full batting points.

Baston’s reply included several breaks for the rain, and never really threatened the target, especially as Morley bowled superbly, removing both openers, finishing with 3 for 39.

A late rally from Hilless (25no), salvaged some pride but Town picked up maximum points, dismissing the home side for 120, with two run outs and the rest of the attack sharing the remaining wickets.
