UppinghamTown Sunday 1sts took the points from Oakham in division two of the Rutland League.

Town won by 26 runs on the back of some solid batting and bowling.

After winning the toss Uppingham batted and started slowly but solidly with an opening partnership of 75 between Martin Bennett (124no) and Jamie Dumford (40).

Jamie Richardson (21) pushed Uppingham’s score on to 127 for the second wicket and Mark Cox (18) lost his wicket with the Uppingham score at 191 in the 42nd over.

Uppingham closed on 222-5 with Martin Bennett batting superbly to finish undefeated on 124.

Rory Brown bowled well for his two wickets for 31 runs and Dave Falconer for his two wickets for 64 runs on a very good batting track at Uppingham.

In reply Oakham mirrored the Uppingham innings with P Patel batting superbly for his 125no out after surviving an early but very difficult slip chance.

At 25 overs Oakham were 76-3 and looked in trouble and at 34 overs looked even more dead and buried at 110-6.

However Will Stuart-Jones (31) helped Patel to push on to 186 and Oakham finished on 196-7.

Danny Dumford took two wickets for 44, Mark Cox was 3-53 and Chris Howe took a vital two for 26 to help restrict the scoring rate and secure a good win for Uppingham.

Uppingham remain in second place in the table and in a promotion spot, albeit a massive 68 points behind leaders Market Overton.

Oakham are propping up the bottom of the division on 96.
