Uppingham enjoyed a six-wicket victory over Whittlesey in Rutland League Division Two.
The Rutlanders travelled to Whittlesey without skipper Jamie Dumford and so vice-captain Chris Howe took the helm, winning the toss and fielding on an afternoon of light rain.
Whittlesey got off to a very slow start, scoring just 17 runs for the loss of one wicket in the first 11 overs.
Danny Dumford bowled a superb 12 overs for just 14 runs taking two wickets and bowling six maiden overs.
However, it was skipper Howe who caused the most problems for the batsmen taking 5-37 as Whittlesey were bowled out for just 97 in 41 overs. Only four batsmen scored double figures.
If Uppingham thought it would be an easy target to beat they soon discovered the batting was not easy on this newly-laid wicket losing three early wickets to the very good bowling of Phillips, 3-26
Mark Cox survived an easy catching chance to go on to top score with 48no and with Tom Hubbard’s 10no gave Uppingham a comfortable win in the end, for the loss of just four wickets.
