Deeping are knocked off their perch as top two battle

Market Deeping were knocked of top spot by new Lincolnshire Premier League leaders Grimsby who won a narrow battle between the top two on Saturday.

Deeping batted first at Augusta Street and made 221 with skipper David Gillett hitting 70 as David White took five for 35 for the hosts.

In reply, the home side were soon in trouble on 8 for 3 but their younger generation came to the rescue with Harry Warwick and Jack Wilson putting on 119 for the fourth wicket. Warwick made 77 and Wilson 45 as Grimsby closed in on their target and Lee Charlton hit an unbeaten 57 to see them to victory with just three balls of the match left.

As a result, Grimsby drew six points clear at the top of the Readers Lincolnshire ECB Premier League after five matches.

Sri Lankan Prasanna Jayawardena returned to batting form with an unbeaten 57 as Woodhall Spa beat Bourne by five wickets at the Abbey Lawn.

Bourne skipper Pete Morgan made 60 for the hosts but Sathpath Kelum claimed Stewart Airey’s wicket for 15, triggering a collapse that included four ducks as he took 6 for 37 for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Skegness had only two balls to go when they claimed victory over Bracebridge Heath.

Chasing the former champions’ 165-7, the seasiders scraped home with just two wickets still standing to share fourth place with Market Deeping.

Spalding continued their giant-killing spree with a convincing win over 2012 champions Haxey. The league newcomers were again indebted to Zimbabwean Campbell Light who hit 55 as the home side were out for a modest 147. Light then showed his bowling skills, taking 7 for 35 off nine overs as Haxey were all out for 56.

Sleaford continued their rapid climb up the league, moving into joint second place after beating Hartsholme by eight wickets at London Road. Sharing second spot are Louth who were held to a draw by Lindum.
